SERIES: CHARITY ANN – Gone!
About the Series
The Charity Ann Series revisits a story passed down in my wife’s family for several generations. It imagines the day in Richmond, Virginia, that her enslaved third great-grandmother had two of her two daughters sold away from her to Reverend Isaiah Parker of Harris County, Georgia.
Charity Ann Parker is her second great-grandmother and the matriarch of the Parker line. Her mother’s name and her sister’s names remain unknown.
This is the story that led me to shift my practice from abstract expressionism to socially conscious expressionism.
